Week 6 Oval Deep Dive

Week 6 Oval Deep Dive

By Rhett Sawyer

With the second quarter of the season in the books it’s time to take a look at how each series has taken shape.

Oval Rankings
1 – Low Fuel Racing – 67.709 (+33) Up 2
Next Gen – 3rd
1987 – 2nd

Low Fuel has been killing it over these last 3 weeks, winning 4 of the 6 races and locking in 3 of their drivers to the Next Gen playoffs. These results have seen them sky rocket to the top of the Power Rankings half way through the season. Can LFR keep this up or have the other teams around them figured out a way to keep up with them?

2 – Lost City Racing – 79.603 (-106) Down 1
Next Gen – 4th
1987 – 1st

Lost City Racing has been killing it in the 1987 series, holding a 46 point lead at the halfway point. They haven’t found that same level of performance in the Next Gen series, but they are still in the fight for series lead. For their 2nd season as a team they are certainly showing that they are a team to be reckoned with, now can they hold on or will the other teams catch up?

3 – The Brew Crew – 84.453 (+25) Up 1
Next Gen – 2nd
1987 – 4th

The Brew Crew has been pretty consistent through the first 6 weeks, not really having any bad weeks but they have also only had1 great week. However this has been enough to keep them close to the other top 3 teams in the race to win their first Overall Team Championship. We all know how good their Next Gen team is, so if they can get back to that level then they have a chance to make a run for it as their 1987 Team has stepped up recently.

4 – NLR Legends – 88.325 (-44) Down 2
Next Gen – 1st
1987 – 3rd

NLR Legends has been on a pretty average run of form lately and it has shown with their slide to 4th in the Power Rankings this week. The 2nd quarter of the season has been a pretty solid step back from the first 3 weeks and they need to take advantage of this second progression window to get back to their earlier form as the playoffs are about to start.

5 – Sloth – 110.120 (+20) –
Next Gen – 7th
1987 – 6th

This second quarter of the season has been a good sign for Sloth Racing, which has been helped by filling the last 2 spots for their Next Gen team. They have been making some solid gains lately after taking advantage of the first progression window, now with a full roster and a 2nd progression window in the books are we going to see similar progression over the next 3 weeks?

6 – Delusions of Grandeur – 111.453 (-4) –
Next Gen – 5th
1987 – 5th

DoG has been a pretty solid team in the 1987 series, even going as far as out scoring their Next Gen counterparts even though they have 1 less driver. They sit pretty comfortably in 5th in both series, but there is plenty of time for them to swing either up or down the standings.

7 – NERD – 136.969 (+27) –
Next Gen – 8th
1987 – 7th

Through the early part of this season NERD has been held back by the lack of having a full roster. In the last 2 weeks though they have made significant strides in filling out their roster allowing them more chances to score better results each week. NERD scored a season high in points this past week and their new drivers seem to be working out so far

8 – Desperado – 150.809 (+39) –
Next Gen – 6th
1987 – 8th

Desperado Racing continues to struggle to find consistent form in the Oval Series as it seems like they are riding a roller coaster every other week. Still plenty of time for them to make some noise, can Desperado bounce back over the last 7 weeks?
